MISSIONARY FOR JAPAN (in preparation)
Hailing from Terceira Island in the Atlantic treasure that is the Azores, Rebeca Roxo Couto was born and raised in the pews of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Praia da Vitória. A violinist by profession, she trained not only in classical violin performance and music teaching, but also in theology at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Queluz.
After beginning to learn Japanese as a hobby, his knowledge of the language opened a window to discovering Japan’s worldview, culture, and spiritual state. Over the course of 7 years, God transformed this interest into a calling to missions to the second largest unreached people group in the world.
In 2025, her mother church and MEVIC will partner with the International Mission Board to send her as the first Portuguese evangelical missionary to Japan.
Japan is one of the countries where the message of Christ has encountered the greatest resistance, both politically and culturally. With a culture of relentless workaholism, facing an epidemic of loneliness and a demographic crisis, Japan is considered a country of “great spiritual need.” However, the Japanese also reflect on the deeper questions of life, and their worldview is full of points of contact with the Gospel.
The Holy Spirit is at work among the Japanese people and can do so through you as well, in partnership with MEVIC and IMB, by sending the first Portuguese evangelical missionary to Japan in the last 400 years.
