MISSIONARIES IN BEJA – PORTUGAL
Empowering African leaders in Northern Africa
Eliézer and Cristiane Souza have been married for 28 years and have two daughters, a son-in-law, and a grandson who reside in Brazil. Eliézer completed his Bachelor’s degree in Theology in 2000 and, a few years later, his Master’s degree in Theology. He is currently pursuing his doctorate.
Eliézer and Cristiane began working together in the Presbyterian Church of Brazil in 1996, and for several years they served and pastored churches and seminaries in the area of teaching and discipleship, but always with the perspective of working with the African people.
In 2018, they went to Guinea-Bissau for the first time to train Guinean leaders, and from this trip came the invitation to work with the Guinean Evangelical Church in Portugal, preparing African leaders to work in the areas of Evangelism, Discipleship, and Teaching in North Africa.
Sent by the Central Evangelical Church of Guinea-Bissau, they arrived in Portugal in 2023, where they were integrated into the pastoral team of the Guinean Evangelical Church in Portugal, located in the Benfica neighborhood of Lisbon. For almost two years they developed various projects in the field of education and, in 2025, in partnership with Mevic, they were sent to carry out more comprehensive work with churches and African and Asian immigrants in the city of Beja.
Currently, in the city of Beja, he is involved with several churches and develops more than 10 projects with partnerships in Brazil, Europe, and Africa.
Throughout all these years, the foundation of the couple’s ministry has been Jesus’ command: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).
